There are many shopping facilities in Shanghai, and the selection of available goods is nearly the same as that of any international city. Nanjing Lu, China's best known (and arguably most worthwile) shopping street cuts from East to West through Shanghai and offers everything imagineable. Many bookstores can be found parallel to Nanjing Lu, in Fuzhou Lu.

If you are more into kitsch and souveniers, you definitely have to go into the old city, near Yu Yuan. Well worth a visit and often good for a bargain are the numerous department stores, and for more expensive products, there are also shopping centers, operated by international companies like Carrefour or Makro. However, the best place to buy the best and freshest food, or just to satisfy your curiosity, one should definitely visit the street markets.
