Between the main road Renmin Nanlu and the Traffic Hotel there is a nice footpath along the Nanhe River with many cheap restaurants. These restaurants also offer excursions to various attractions all over Chengdu, like visiting factories, a traditional Chinese hospital and Sichuan Opera (where you can dress up like an actor and sometimes even take part) in the opera.
