Drum Separator Configuration and Special Features

For drum separator, permanent magnet wet drum separator and electro magnetic drum separator are common.

Hongxing permanent magnet wet drum separators have been beneficiating iron ore and heavy media successfully for decades. In iron ore processing, the wet drum separator separates magnetic iron ore such as magnetite from waste rock - at P80’s commonly down to 28μm. The feed mechanism and separation zone are optimised according to maximum flow principles. By introducing powerful neodymium iron boron magnets, fields of up to 7,000 Gauss can be achieved, meaning Steinert can also offer so-called medium-intensity magnetic separators.

Magnetic drum separators are important magnetic separators that removes ferrous metal from dry bulk products in free-flowing processing systems. They are self cleaning unit consisting of drums and housing normally of stainless steel. The magnets used by the magnetic drum separators are either ceramic magnets or rare earth magnets. The magnetic drum separators are available both in single or double drum configuration.

The drum of the electromagnetic separators are designed in such a way that only half of its side is magnetized and the other half is not magnetized. An empty stainless steel shell which surrounds the magnet rotates freely whereas the magnet is stationary. The ferrous particles are captured by the magnets and released separately.

The liquid flows through a semi-circular separating chamber beneath a stainless steel drum to which the magnetisable particles are attracted. The strong, high-gradient magnetic field is created by a cylinder consisting of permanent magnetic discs positioned within the drum. These special permanent magnets generate particularly high field gradients which are necessary for successful separation, as is the need with all magnetic separators.

Special features of electro magnetic drum separator:

1) Unique Aluminum anodized foil cores

2) No insulated wire core to trap heat and destroy magnetism.

3) Modular coil design allows easy replacement.

4) Drum supports are Ringfeder Clamps

5) Larger bearings and housings are made user friendly.

6) Strong axial cores allow bigger working gaps and extra flipping of ferrous for better cleaning action.

7) Ferrous losses are very low, reducing tramp iron levels
